My Vintage Obsession!
Fashion is always evolving and revolving. I've found that many of the latest and future trends can be found second hand, preloved, and 10+ years old. Let's take a look at my personal vintage collection and see why this is my obsession.
1. Being able to afford and get designer bags from when I was in high school
This is something so satisfying as being able to create amazing looks with a piece that was around during my high school and college days. I remember watching Sex and the City and the movie Clueless and totally dreaming about one day working hard enough to afford a nice bag, shoes and clothing like that.
2. The quality
You've heard the saying from your Grandparents and Parents: they don't make things like they use to anymore. This is so true when it comes to fashion. Clothing is now mass produced. To keep costs down and profits up the quality of materials have gone down, but the prices have seem to have gotten out of control. Investment fashion pieces were meant to last you a lifetime, so they were made that way. You can completely tell the difference. For example, my vintage Louis Vuitton handbags from the 80s and 90s canvas and lining seem so much thicker and harder then my Neverfull MM from 2016.
3. You can't get it anymore
These styles are no longer available in store so your only option is to go vintage. I also love this because you will not have to worry about someone else having the same item as you. With styles and fashion coming back, searching for vintage pieces is a great way to stay on trend but also be unique.
4. The thrill of the hunt
Who doesn't love to look for a good bargain? I'm one of those girls that is so excited to let you know how much I spent/saved on and item. I'm like a walking advertisement for Ebay, Poshmark and Rehobeth Beach Delaware (which have the cutest little vintage shops)!
5. You're recycling
You're reusing something, and that's always great for the environment. Rescuing these amazing fashion pieces from a landfill and enjoying them as they were intended to be enjoyed. Just brings a smile to my face. I love thinking about all the women that had my vintage items before me, how beautiful they must have felt and proud for owning them. Science says that energy can not be created nor destroyed just transformed. So positive energy must be attached to my collection because I feel their love and beauty each time I wear a vintage piece.
Great post! Love shopping vintage!
