My 5 Shopping Saving Tips

Lets go over my 5 shopping tips to help you save money on your wardrobe. They will probably seem like no brainers when you think about it, but this is something that took me time to realize. Since committing to these, they save me not only money but also time and guilt.

1. I never make an impulse buy.
Meaning I don't just buy things because they are on sale. I always make sure I have a use for them. I wish the young me would have known this. Sometimes when we see a good deal we jump on it or the buy more save more. You might be thinking "um Jess this post is all about saving money and now you are telling me not to save money?" What I'm saying is before I buy I think what's the purpose for this? How am I going to use this and when? If you don't have an answer or if the answer is I don't know yet, put the item down. I have seen amazing deals on fancy dresses and think wow $20 for this formal dress what a deal! But I don't have any weddings to go to this year or Fancy Balls. If I decide to buy that item that $20 will just be sitting in my closet for a year or more and when I do get invited to a wedding I want to go out dress shopping. So rule #1 of saving money is to not buy with out a purpose.

2. Buy items that you need off season. Meaning buy your winter items in the spring when they go on sale and your spring and summer items in the fall. When a season is over most of these items get marketed down 70% or more to make room for the next season. Don't worry about it not being in style the next year. Most fashion doesn't change much from year to year. And you can always add current accessories pieces to make it on trend.

3. I always sign up for email lists. When you do this you will never miss out on the big clearance sales. I know it can be over whelming but I suggest just getting an email made for retailers so it will not clog up your personal email. Another small tip is to place items in your cart and leave them for later.  Most likely, the retailer will send you a promo code that will lower the price if you have purchased from them before.

4. Before purchasing a more expensive piece shop around. I always love looking at the second hand market. Most items do not go up in value once they are used so why not save yourself more money and go the pre-loved route. Some of my favorite sites include Poshmark, Thredup, therealreal, and fashionphile. You can get most designer pieces 50% to 70% off.

5. Don't spend what you don't have. The last tip is a phrase that my Dad you use to say to me. It's always in the back of my head before I purchase. "Spend less then you have and you will always be rich." I always take this to heart and even though I love shopping and finding a great deal, having money saved makes is such a better deal.
Hope this helps you save and look Fab while doing it! Remember #getyourchictogether
